The "Last Wishes" of Papa Chuck

by Father Chuck LaVerde, C.S.

God has been so good to me lately! Maybe it's because I did go through an "agony," like Jesus did when he foresaw great sufferings and yet said, "Father, not as I will, but as You Will!" The surrender of ourselves to the Perfect Will of the Father always brings "angels" to console and minister to us.

My Superiors have assigned me to be the shepherd of a very poor flock in Chicago. This won’t be an easy assignment. I must be at my new parish by September 1, 1994.

Therefore, here are my "last wishes" for you, the Charismatic leaders and prayer group members in the Diocese of San Jose.

I. Move toward the Holy Spirit!

It seems to me that the Signs of the Times are pointing to Mary as Mother of the Church. All over the world, God is sending His Blessed Mother to help mankind to re-focus on "Abba," our loving Father. She is deeply offended by the faithlessness and crass immorality of our times. She is appearing here and there, all over the world, to encourage us all to "Do What Jesus Tells You to Do!" She continues to do what she did in the Upper Room before Pentecost Sunday: Praying with her Son’s close follower’s in anticipation of the coming of the Holy Spirit in a "New Pentecost!"

It will "cost" much and it will pay off tremendously, but only if we "Keep the Faith!" My deepest wish is that all Charismatics, under the leadership of Bishop DuMaine and his prayerful Liaisons, as well as the Pastoral Advisory Board, will begin to work closely together with our good Catholic Brothers and Sisters who authentically love our Blessed Mother, especially during these final years of the 20th Century. May the 21st Century find the Marion Movement and the Charismatic Movement inseparable, working together for the Second Coming of Christ Jesus. This is my greatest desire!

II. Re-focus on the Unity of the Spirit!

I would like to see us Catholic Charismatics re-focus on the Unity of the Spirit needed in the universal Body of Christ. (The church of all validly-baptized Christian People of God.)

To put it bluntly, we Catholics have been reminded and requested by Vatican II to reach out to our Separated (validly baptized) Brethren in Prayer, Study, and Works, for the reunification of the broken Body of Christ. We need to re-stir the fire of the Spirit who wants all the Baptized People of God to come together for the true edification (re-building) of the Church that Jesus wants to use for the salvation of the whole world.

I wish that all Catholic Charismatics will develop deep discernment for the Spirit's directions regarding the authentic Unity of Christendom. This also is my profound desire for the Charismatic Movement in the Diocese of San Jose and is clearly symbolized in the text surrounding the dove in the CPST Logo.

"May they be one, Father, may they be one in us as You are in me and I am in You."

What's more: I know you can do it, because you have The Spirit!
